[BDB News] A Cupcake Tour of London – Part 1

A Cupcake Tour of London

It never passes me by that I am really lucky to work with lovely people. They are a great team and some of the most amazing feedback we get from our customers is down to them. So, I cooked up a little plan to say thanks to them all for all of their hard work.

We arranged a hot date and I sent them this little ditty. Luckily I am better at designing cakes than writing poetry. Kath didn’t mind what we were doing as long as she didn’t have to wear a swimming costume and no one else minded what we were doing as long as there would be lunch.

We met at work early on a Friday morning and piled into our giant taxi. I gave them their cryptic maps and freshly baked pain au chocolate and explained they we were off for a magical tour of London cakes and bakes. The journey was full of nattering, cake gossip and catching up. We heard about Caroline’s wedding plans, Jenny’s sewing course and Dani’s newest top secret bit of cake kit. An excellent way to while away a couple of hours.

There’s a link to the Google Map of our day here: The Blue Door Tour – A Cupcake Tour of London Map. There’s also a printable .pdf of our stops here: A Cupcake Tour of London. (Don’t look yet if you want a surprise about where the tour is stopping though.)

Our first stop was the beautiful Peggy Porschen Parlour.

You can visit the parlour at:

We ordered Strawberry Champagne Layer Cake, a Banoffee Cupcake, Lemon Layer Cake and a Passion Fruit Cupcake.

Kath played Mum and we all shared and shamelessly judged the amazing bakes.

The Strawberry Champagne layer cake was, without doubt, one of the best cakes I’ve ever eaten (and I’ve eaten a lot). The whole place is a picture of pink perfection only let down very slightly by the fact that the staff are a little less friendly than we’d expect. Still, if you’re in London and a cake fan, you have to visit the Peggy Porschen Parlour. Sit and enjoy one of the best cakes you’ll ever taste in this tiny cake haven.

No hanging around for us, we were off and on our way to our next stop.. Choccywoccydoodah.

The Choccywoccydoodah team had invited us into their secret room for a little tour and a chat. We settled in, had a nose around and were totally charmed by them and their creations.

The SecretGarden room is available for private hire and functions. If you’re visiting the shop, pop upstairs to the café.

Is this the most excellent cake stand you’ve ever seen or what?

A visit to ChoccyWoccyDooDah is such an experience. Their cakes are so totally unique, up close they are even more mind blowing. Wander in, sample some chocolate, chat to the lovely staff, most importantly, enjoy a slice of this beast of a cake. (Ginger was our favourite layer.)

Tune in for part two of our tour later this week..
